The Human Bean Caffeine Calculator

The Human Bean Caffeine Calculator

The Human Bean lets you build dozens of different Bright® Energy combinations — three bases, over two dozen flavor add-ins — and every single one comes out to exactly the same caffeine. That's confirmed directly on The Human Bean's own site, flavor by flavor, not an assumption. Espresso drinks are a different story: caffeine there depends on shot count, and The Human Bean doesn't publish an exact figure for every one.

How much caffeine is in The Human Bean? Every Bright® Energy drink — Original, Lime or Sugar-Free base, in any of the named flavor combinations — contains a flat 160 mg per 16 oz can, straight from The Human Bean's own product pages. A single espresso shot runs about 63 mg, so lattes, mochas and Americanos scale with shot count and size rather than a single fixed number.

Every Bright Energy flavor is exactly 160 mg

Twilight, Lucky, Sweet Victory, Smashmelon, Poolside — different colors, different fruit combinations, completely different names. Checked directly against The Human Bean's own individual product pages for each one: every single flavor states the identical line, "each 16 oz. can contains 160 mg of natural caffeine." The flavor changes the taste. It never changes the dose.

Every Bright flavor, the same number

Checked against The Human Bean's own individual drink pages — not a compiled estimate, the company's own stated figure for each named drink.

Bright Energy (Original, Lime, or Sugar-Free base)
160 mg
Twilight (almond, blue raspberry, blackberry, Bright Lime)
160 mg
Lucky (blue raspberry, almond, Bright Original)
160 mg
Sweet Victory
160 mg
Smashmelon (strawberry, watermelon)
160 mg

Why this happens

The Human Bean's own explanation is that caffeine comes from a fixed amount of "clean caffeine" extracted from green coffee beans, mixed into every Bright base at the same concentration. The dozens of flavor add-ins are just flavoring syrups added on top — they don't change the caffeinated base underneath, so the number never moves no matter which combination you order.

The Human Bean's own FAQ confirms shot count is what drives caffeine in espresso drinks, and increases with size, but doesn't publish an exact per-drink chart the way it does for Bright Energy. These figures use the widely-cited 63 mg standard single-shot reference and typical shot counts by size.

Brewed coffee, chai and matcha
DrinkEstimate
Brewed coffee, small (12 oz)140–190 mg
Brewed coffee, medium (16 oz)190–255 mg
Brewed coffee, large (20 oz)235–320 mg

Matcha Latte40–70 mg

The Human Bean's own FAQ specifically recommends matcha and tea as its lower-caffeine options — both fit that description, sitting well under the espresso line and far under Bright Energy.

What surprises people about Human Bean's caffeine

  1. Every Bright Energy flavor is exactly 160 mg, confirmed individually across at least five differently-named drinks on The Human Bean's own site.
  2. The flavor add-ins are purely cosmetic for caffeine purposes — almond, blue raspberry, blackberry, watermelon, coconut, none of it changes the dose.
  3. Espresso drinks are the opposite story — no fixed number exists; caffeine tracks shot count directly, and The Human Bean's own advice is to ask how many shots are in your drink if you want to know your total.
  4. A "Sugar-Free" Bright base has the same caffeine as the regular ones — the sugar changes, the caffeine doesn't.
  5. Matcha and tea are the chain's own recommended lower-caffeine picks, a rare case of a coffee chain explicitly pointing customers toward its milder options.

Human Bean vs other energy drinks and coffee

DrinkCaffeine
Large Human Bean brewed coffee (20 oz, high end)320 mg
Starbucks Grande Pike Place, brewed310 mg
Large Human Bean latte, 3 shots189 mg
Monster Energy (16 oz)160 mg
Bright Energy, any flavor (16 oz)160 mg
Medium Human Bean latte, 2 shots126 mg
Red Bull (8.4 oz)80 mg
Small Human Bean latte, 1 shot63 mg

Bright Energy lands almost exactly on par with a Monster Energy can — both flat, both consistent regardless of flavor — while The Human Bean's own brewed coffee at its largest size is competitive with Starbucks' strongest brewed option.

How many Human Bean drinks a day is safe?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cites 400 mg a day as an amount not generally associated with negative effects in healthy adults.

DrinkShare of 400 mg guideline
Small latte, 1 shot (63 mg)16%
Bright Energy, any flavor (160 mg)40%
Large latte, 3 shots (189 mg)47%
Large brewed coffee, high end (320 mg)80%
Bright Energy + large brewed coffee same day480 mg — over the guideline

Any single Human Bean drink stays comfortably under the daily guideline on its own — the more common way to exceed it is stacking a Bright Energy can on top of brewed coffee or an espresso drink earlier in the day. Because Bright Energy's 160 mg is fixed no matter which flavor you pick, there's no lower-caffeine way to get the "Bright" experience except switching to tea or matcha instead. Lower ceilings are commonly cited for some groups: around 200 mg a day in pregnancy, and roughly 100 mg for adolescents — both reachable with a single Bright Energy can. Sensitivity varies a great deal between individuals. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, have a heart condition or anxiety disorder, or take medication that interacts with stimulants.

The Human Bean caffeine: frequently asked questions

How much caffeine is in The Human Bean's Bright Energy?

A flat 160 mg per 16 oz can or serving, confirmed directly on The Human Bean's own product pages. This figure is identical across every base (Original, Lime, Sugar-Free) and every named flavor combination.

Does the flavor change how much caffeine is in Bright Energy?

No. Checked individually across at least five differently-named Bright Energy drinks on The Human Bean's own site — Twilight, Lucky, Sweet Victory, Smashmelon, Poolside — every one lists the same 160 mg.

How much caffeine is in a Human Bean latte?

It depends on shot count rather than a fixed figure. Using the standard 63 mg single-shot reference, a one-shot small runs about 63 mg, a two-shot medium about 126 mg, and a three-shot large about 189 mg.

Does Human Bean publish official caffeine figures for espresso drinks?

Not a complete per-drink chart. Their own FAQ states caffeine content is determined by shot count, which increases with size, but recommends asking your barista for the shot count if you want to know your exact total.

Is Bright Energy stronger than Red Bull?

Yes. At 160 mg per 16 oz can, Bright Energy carries twice the caffeine of an 8.4 oz Red Bull (80 mg), even accounting for the larger serving size.

What is The Human Bean's lowest-caffeine option?

Matcha and tea, according to the chain's own FAQ, which explicitly recommends both for customers wanting less caffeine than a typical espresso drink or Bright Energy can.

Does Sugar-Free Bright Energy have less caffeine?

No. The Sugar-Free base carries the identical 160 mg as the Original and Lime bases — only the sweetener changes.

Is Human Bean coffee stronger than Starbucks?

At the high end, a large Human Bean brewed coffee can be competitive with a Starbucks Grande Pike Place, though exact figures vary since Human Bean doesn't publish an official brewed-coffee chart.

Sources and method

Bright Energy caffeine figures (160 mg) are transcribed directly from The Human Bean's own individual product pages for each named drink, cross-checked against the brand's original 2024 product launch press release, which states the same figure. The Human Bean does not publish an official per-drink caffeine chart for its espresso, brewed coffee, chai or matcha menu; those figures are compiled estimates based on the company's own stated shot-count logic and the widely-cited 63 mg standard espresso shot reference.
